Are you ready to dive into your research? DO NOT go straight to Zillow or any other real estate sites – learn about your new community first.
Research the town as much as you can.
If you know where you’re moving, there’s a wealth of information literally at your fingertips. Find out as much as you can ahead of time by using online sources. Here are some suggestions: • Facebook, Reddit, Instagram and Twitter - Social media provides lots of information and community. Join a few groups and find whatever accounts intrigue you. Don’t forget to search for the city’s hashtags and main accounts, such as chambers of commerce or tourism departments. • Websites that specialize in location - These days, a lot of “place-focused” websites exist, from livability to city data and more. Do yourself a favor and visit a few. • Online publications - Read up on the city and find out more about what goes on by scouting online versions of their magazines and newspapers. Chat with any potential connections you may have.
Whether it’s a friend’s cousin or someone you clicked with during your online research, other people are always going to be a great source of information about a new place of residence. Ask your questions, and take notes on what sounds helpful. Remember to ask about certain neighborhoods, shopping, dining, traffic, walkability and anything else you’re interested in.
Figure out your priorities.
