Preclosing Error: Buyers Moving in Too Soon
A homeowner in a Milwaukee suburb had accepted an offer on her house and was awaiting the closing. However, the seller found out the buyers had already started moving in before the official closing date. Concerned, the seller called her agent, who reached out to the buyers’ agent. The buyers should not have had the keys and definitely should not have been moving in yet, for legal reasons. The buyers, however, thought it was fine to move in early. While they couldn’t stay, they had already transferred the utilities to their name before closing. The agents had to explain that the utilities couldn’t be switched until escrow had closed. “I don’t think they fully understood why, but they did comply,” the seller’s agent said.
Fraudulent Buyers
