as the time of arrival and pickup. Could you draw up a timetable for moving day, including the time to start loading boxes, where/when to stop for lunch, the estimated arrival time at the new place, etc.? This will give you a sense of what to expect and prepare for on the day. With the help of volunteer family and friends, finish packing all your things, leaving behind only the essential items you’ll use daily. Could you ensure all your boxes are correctly packed, numbered, and color-coded by room, if possible? This will help you in the unpacking process. Could you make sure there are labels on the tops and sides of the boxes? Prepare a snack bag for moving day. Bring lots of water and high-energy food to sustain your strength while moving. Have your checklists and pens ready in your bag. Clean up your refrigerator, stove, and other kitchen appliances. Make sure most of the food in the fridge will be consumed by moving day. Please ensure all your donation/giving-away items are picked up or delivered to their new owners. Do all utilities work correctly in your new home? Prepare several Post-it notes with your new address and contact numbers to be given to your movers or your entourage on moving day.
ON THE DAY OF THE BIG MOVE
Pack away your bedding and disassemble all the beds in your home. (You can also do this a day or two before and sleep on an air mattress for your last night.) Have a last-minute meeting with your movers if hiring one, and ensure they know how you want things done. Inform them of the box labels, where each box must go, and how they should be loaded.
