While “whole-home” ENERGY STAR certification doesn’t appear in the latest percentages, past NAHB data suggests it’s important to roughly 81% of buyers. That figure likely trends higher now as energy costs and environmental concerns become more prominent. Some niche features, like bathroom linen closets or exhaust fans, may not appear in the official top ten, but when present, they add to the sense of convenience and completeness that today’s buyers appreciate. Keep in mind these features are not guaranteed to be effective or profitable upgrades.
Features Fewer Homebuyers Want
When it comes to features that turn buyers off, the National Association of Home Builders offers some clear signals. About 51% of homebuyers say they would not purchase a home with a primary bathroom that has only a shower stall and no tub, that’s half of buyers feeling shortchanged without the full package. Other elements that often appear on “do-not-want” lists, though without precise, up-to-date statistics, include two-story family rooms and outdoor kitchens. While these features may appeal to certain buyers, they regularly make others hesitate or pass altogether.
