“disaster” by the U.S. President; • your primary residence has been affected, and damages to your primary residence are disaster-related; • your primary residence is uninhabitable or inaccessible; • the disaster-caused need can’t be met through other forms of disaster assistance or insurance; and • you have insufficient or no insurance.
RURAL HOUSING REPAIR LOANS AND GRANTS
Rural Housing Repair Loans and Grants offers loans and grants to very low-income homeowners for repairs, improvements, modernization projects or removal of safety and health hazards that appear their rural residences. Loans are arranged at 1% interest for up to 20 years. Grants may be arranged for recipients 62 years of age or older. Grants are only to be used to fund repairs and improvements that remove health and safety hazards. Combinations of loans and grants may be arranged for those who can repay a portion of the cost. “Very low income” for this program is defined as below 50% of the area median income. Homeowners who live in a rural area must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have a very low income to qualify for the loan program. These same requirements must be met for the grant program, but homeowners must be 62 years or older to be eligible for a grant. Loans of up to $20,000 and grants of up to $7,500 are available.
